DONELSON-HERMITAGE COMMUNITY RAISES MONEY FOR THE FIGHT AGAINST CANCER

HERMITAGE, Tenn., May 8, 2009 – Plans are under way to promote the annual fundraiser Relay For Life, held on June 5, which provides money to support cutting-edge cancer research, free transportation to cancer treatment facilities, wigs to cancer patients, lifesaving literature on cancer prevention, detection and tobacco issues, and helps to develop a new generation of weapons to fight cancer.

Now is the time for individuals, community groups, corporations and small businesses to commit their team participation. The Relay For Life can be the site of a company picnic or family gathering while supporting a great cause. Join us at this event to celebrate those who have battled cancer, remember those lost and fight back against the disease.

Support Relay For Life by attending one of the following fundraisers:

  • Saturday, May 9 Rita’s of Hermitage offers a Celebrity Scoop Event.  15% of sales benefit Relay For Life between 2 p.m. and 4 p.m.
  • Friday, May 15 Southern style Award winning barbecue and silent auction will take place at A Concourse Maintenance Shop from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
  • Monday, May 18 Chick-Fil-A Spirit Day is donating 10% of proceeds to Relay For Life between 12 noon and 8 p.m.
  • Monday, May 18 through Friday, May 22 Summit Medical Center volunteers will be selling luminarias in the hospital cafeteria between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. Honor a survivor by purchasing a luminaria for only $5 to be part of the opening ceremony.
  • Friday, May 22 A Gospel Concert, Silent Auction, and Yard Sale will be held at Summit Medical Center from 12 p.m.-1 p.m.  $2 tickets will be sold at the door.
  • Drop by your old cell phones, digital cameras, laptops, game systems, and iPods to the Summit Medical Center Human Resources Department, where they will recycle old cell phones. Every item collected equals a direct donation to Relay For Life.

If you would like to learn more about Relay For Life or to buy a luminaria bag for the American Cancer Society Relay For Life in the Donelson-Hermitage community, call 316-3590 or visit www.RelayForLife.org/Hermitage.
